Obituary for
Charles Joseph Vollmer
Charles (Chuck) Vollmer passed away February 4, 2011. He was 84 years old. Chuck was born in South Dakota, grew up in Montana. He spent most of his life in Spokane, Washington, where he met and married his wife of 52 years, Mary Louise Auld.
Chuck and Mary moved to Hailey in 2000. "Best move we ever made," he often said. Here in Hailey, he was a Red Cross volunteer and member of the Ham Radio club. His interest in ham radios was spurred by a desire to be of service during an emergency. Chuck's life was a living example of the commandment, "Love Thy Neighbor." As a young man he was a Boy Scout Leader; as a family man, he gave countless hours volunteering for school and church projects and helping family and friends. In his retirement, he supported Habitat for Humanity in Spokane.
A carpenter by trade, Chuck was the consummate handy-man and often helped family, friends and neighbors with their home projects. Chuck loved traveling, fly-fishing and sailing.
Chuck is survived by Mary, their three children and spouses, Karla (Alain) Rinckwald, Lisa (Bill) Yost, and Joe; grandchildren Lindsay, William and Joel; seven brothers and sisters and their spouses; and dozens of nieces and nephews.
The family is very grateful for the support and services of Wood River Hospice and Drs. McLaughlin, Fiaschetti, and McClure.
A funeral Mass will be held Friday, February 11, at 2 p.m. at St. Charles, Hailey.
