Life Story for
Patricia Valera Stansberry
Patricia Val Stansberry passed away on March 6, 2016. Pat was born in Inglewood, California to Wes and Val McAfee. She attended Morningside High School and then went on to the University of California, Santa Barbara. After graduation Pat thought traveling to Europe would be just the thing, but her trip was shortened by her lifelong calling to teach. While in Europe she had gotten a job offer to teach in the Fountain Valley School District in Southern California. She arrived home in her "maxie" coat, with her long blond hair and her always present smile, to begin her lifelong career in education and to marry the love of her life, John Stansberry.
In 1987 John and Pat, with their sons, Brad and Chad, moved to Ketchum, Idaho where they had vacationed since the mid 70's. Pat and John both joined the education community in the Wood River Valley: John at Hemingway School and Pat at The Community School. Her long and distinguished career there allowed Pat to touch many students. She created positive life attitudes for her students and their parents. It is difficult to imagine the number of people Pat touched with her genuine friendship and caring...always a quick smile, a laugh, a hug and her ever present positive attitude.
Her family was always her priority. She shared that life with her husband, John; sons, Brad and Chad; daughter-in-law Kat; grandchildren, Georgia Bea and Rewk; and her brother, Mike McAfee of Manhattan Beach, California and sister-in-law Evon Lester.
In lieu of flowers please donate to: Blaine County Education Foundation or The Animal Shelter of the Wood River Valley.
Condolences may be sent to: The Stansberry Family, PO Box 2808, Ketchum, ID 83340.
A celebration will be held on March 20, 2016 at Elkhorn Springs from 3-5 pm.
