Obituary for Lynda Louise Smith

Lynda was born in Altadena, California on June 27, 1946. She died at her home in Hailey, Idaho on July 29, 2010, in the company of her partner Curtis and daughter Reva. Despite her enormous optimism and spirit she lost her 3 ½ month battle with melanoma cancer. During her 64 years she exhibited gentleness, kindness, and compassion rarely experienced in life.

Lynda spent the majority of her life in Palm Springs, California. She moved to Hailey in 2000 with her partner Curtis Galvez. She spent the last ten years renewing her love of the mountains while hiking, camping, and backpacking to soothe the soul. You may remember Lynda as the friendly smile or compassionate spirit at Backwoods Mountain Sports, Help-U-Sell Real Estate, or at various nail salons in Hailey in the past several years.

Lynda is survived by her parents Larry and Evelyn Smith of Palm Desert, CA, daughter Reva Stewart Boland (Tom) of Palm Springs, son Eric Stewart (Jessica) of Los Angeles, son Christopher Goodall of Palm Springs, grandsons Sam and Sean Boland, sister Susan Hancock of Banning, CA. and her partner Curtis Galvez of Hailey, ID.

Lynda’s legacy is one of simple acts, demonstrating genuine compassion, caring, and love. Her kindness and gentle smile were infectious. Lynda had recently gravitated toward Buddhism, taking her vows of refuge under teacher Anam Thubten two years ago.

A celebration of life gathering will be held for family and friends at Heagle Park in Hailey at 3:00 p.m. on August 21, 2010. Email curtisgalvez@gmail.com for more details. A similar ceremony will follow this fall in Palm Springs, CA.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Hospice of the Wood River Valley, PO Box 4320 Ketchum, ID. 83340.
