Life Story for Corinne Susan "Susie" Rutlowski

Corinne Susan (Susie) Rutkowski, of Sun Valley Idaho, beloved wife, mother and friend, passed away on Nov. 14, 2018, after a two-year battle with cancer that she fought with grace, dignity and humor.

Susie was born on April 27, 1952, in Bethesda Md., to Ann and Kelly Davis, and grew up in Coronado, Calif., where she spent many a warm California day on Central Beach with her friends. She graduated from UCLA with a B.S. in Biology followed by an R.N. degree. Susie worked in Santa Monica, Calif., where she met the love of her life, Rick Rutkowski, in 1976. They married in 1981 on the beach in Malibu, Calif., and moved to Sun Valley in 1987, where they raised two boys.

Susie loved the outdoors, especially long hikes with her girlfriends, Nordic skate skiing, alpine skiing and mountain biking. Later in life, she got hooked on bridge and was a member of the Sun Valley Bridge Club. She enjoyed gardening, especially her beloved hollyhocks. On a cloudy winter day, one would find her at home working on the latest needlepoint project. Susie and Rick enjoyed traveling, having made trips to Russia, Africa, Europe and the Yucatan. They found river cruises especially relaxing and enlightening.

Susie was a kind and compassionate person. She gave freely of her time as a volunteer in the school system, fundraising events and anywhere there was a need. Her positive attitude was infectious and she was an inspiration to those who knew her. There is a great void in many lives due to her passing.

Susie is survived by her husband, Rick Rutkowski; sons Cory Rutkowski (Kristen) and Dustin Rutkowski; brother Charles Davis; and sister Christie Davis.

There will be a celebration of life Mass on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2019, at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of the Snows Church, followed by a luncheon at the church. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Hospice and Palliative Care of the Wood River Valley would be appreciated.
