Life Story for Gertrude Hackett Potters

Gertrude Hackett Pottters died on March 25, 2017 at her home on Dataw Island, SC. Born on May 7, 1923 in Newark, New Jersey, she was the daughter of Mable McPeck and William Henry Hackett who proceeded her in death as did her husband of 56 years Robert Potters and her sister, Lois and her brother’s William, Norman, Dudley, Forrest and Donald and her daughter-in –law Christina M. Potters. Gertrude is survived by her three children Marilyn P. Peck, of Dataw Island, SC, Robert S. Potters and daughter-in-law Cynthia Casey Potters of Natick, Massachusetts and Paul W. Potters of Ketchum, Idaho. She is also survived by six grandchildren and nine great- grandchildren.
Gertrude and her family lived in Essex Fells, NJ for 30 years where she was a member of the Essex Fells and Montclair Country Clubs. She and her husband retired to Ketchum Idaho in 1981 were she was an avid golfer, tennis player, hiker and cross country skier. She also was a member of the Ketchum Library Board, The Moritz Hospital Women’s Board and The Gold Mine. In 2005 she moved to Dataw Island, SC to be with her family. Gertrude participated in Bible Study,The Stitching Group and was a past member of the Dataw Historic Foundation.
A memorial service will be held at the Parish Church of St. Helena in Beaufort at 11:00 am on Wednesday, May 17th. A burial service will be at the Ketchum, Idaho Cemetery on August 5. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Friends of Caroline Hospice, 1110 13th Street, Port Royal, SC 29935 and The Alzheimer’s Association, South Carolina Chapter, 4124 Clemson Blvd., Suite L, Anderson, SC 29621. Copeland Funeral Service and Wood River Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
