Piper Reed

March 11, 1985 — May 29, 2019

Piper Tabriz Reed was born in Warwick, NY on March 11, 1985. A graduate of BSU with a B.S. in Sociology, she was a well-known and beloved member of the Wood River Valley community and a true inspiration to all who knew her.

A mountain girl through and through, Piper’s varied interests and love of adventure led her to take on countless challenges. She was a wildland firefighter, wilderness first responder, certified trainer, avid hunter and fisherman, and a ski racer for Sun Valley Ski Team and Lowell Whiteman School. She worked at several local establishments, including High Altitude Fitness, Enoteca, Sawtooth Brewery, and the Cookbook.

Piper’s bright smile and infectious personality lit up any room she entered, and she quickly became a part of every one of us who knew her. She was a sister to those who needed inspiration, adventure, and love; a daughter to many who found hope and happiness through their connection to Piper; and a soulmate for many of us who knew her closely.

Always up for a run, hike, a few laps on the mountain, an early morning duck hunt, or a beer at one of our valley watering holes, Piper had a true zest for life and new adventures. She lived a life of focus, discipline, self-reliance, and kindness toward others. Taking great pride in her hobbies, Piper pushed herself to perfect each one, be it the ace shot, the symmetrically arced ski turn, stellar form during a weightlifting session, the loop of her fly rod cast, or just perfectly straightening her beautiful, blonde curls.

Piper leaves behind her parents, Debi and Frank, as well as her “parents,” Norma and Susan, all of whom were deeply a part of Piper’s life. For her brothers and sisters, Shauna (Joey Petelle), Frank (Lori), Stephanie (Garth Callaghan), Michael, and Paige (Adam Wagner), Piper was their precious little sister, more special than all the stars in the sky. Her twin in life was her niece, Marinna, and she cherished her little nephew and niece, Ryker and Rowan.

No matter what Piper was doing, she was creating fun. Her beloved golden retriever, Remi, Piper’s golden boy, was always by her side. The fact that Piper and Remi left this earth together gives us peace, knowing they are together eternally.
