Obituary for Rick "Ranger" Perry

Rick Perry, or as many knew him, “Ranger” died in Sun Valley, Idaho on April 14th 2012. Born in Delaware, in 1951, to Robert and Barbara, his family moved all over the country while his father was working as a chemical engineering professor and consultant for the United Nations. They eventually settled in Rochester, New York where he attended high school. He gained a love for sailing with his father and completed many long distance sailing trips later on in his life. At Springfield College in Massachusetts he was an avid athlete who was fortunate enough to be a part of two Division I Final Four soccer teams as well as two Division I Final Four Volleyball teams.
After finishing college, he moved west to Sun Valley, Idaho where he embarked on a career in restaurant management which eventually led him to San Diego, where he married and had his first son. In 1992, with another son on the way, he and the family moved to Park City, Utah where he was involved in the opening of “Burgies” on Main Street. Rick spent a majority of his life there enjoying golf and skiing with his family. A love of sports led him to become an influential part of Basin Recreation in its infancy, and helped it to become the successful program that it is today. His vision was one of a community where all children could compete and play whatever sport they were interested in. With a passion for sports, he was very supportive of his sons’ endeavors in skiing, swimming, and golf while also helping to cultivate their minds by pushing them to do well in school.
Rick could always bring a smile to your face with his constant sarcasm and easy-going demeanor. He was always fun-loving and outgoing with a friendly attitude that made an impact in every community that he was a part. His family and friends will continue to cherish all of the wonderful relationships that he created. Rick was 60 years old and is survived by his two sons Stephen and Travis, his wife of 24 years Renee and his brother Geoff.
A celebration of his life will be on June 16th in Park City, Utah. The family wishes to thank Wood River Chapel Mortuary. Online condolences and shared memories are welcome at woodriverchapel.com.
