Obituary for Louise Patterson (Broadie)

Louise Patterson passed away Sunday, November 14, 2010 at St. Lukes Hospital, Twin Falls, from complications of cancer which she had fought valiantly for a number of years.

Louise (Weesee) Patterson was born Edna Louise Broadie to Ada an Ernest Broadie on 16 April 1927 in her Grandma Barkers’ home near Gannett Idaho. She was the oldest of three children; Louise, Betty, and their younger brother Jerry. She grew up and attended school in Gannett later graduating from Hailey High School, class of 1945. She married Grant Alma Patterson from Carey Idaho, recently back from the India-Burma theater of WW-II where he was in a B-24 squadron. They settled in Hailey for a life time of enjoying the Wood River Valley and raised two sons, James and Neil.

Louise enjoyed working as a telephone operator for many years in Hailey and later in Sun Valley. She enjoyed the camaraderie of fellow operators and the job allowed her to be connected to the world at large. She was quick to develop a friendship and cultivated many into life-long friends.

Louise was a product of both the depression and WW-II years and was very conservative in her approach to life; she and her husband both cultivated and enjoyed simple pleasures and loved to camp and fish in the mountains of Idaho. Her mother had been a phenomenal cook and that talent was passed onto Louise, she dearly loved to throw a ‘feed’ for family and friends and her canned goods such as sweet pickles and strawberry jam were special gifts coveted by all who were familiar with them.

Louise was a fierce devotee to family and the love of both close and extended family. To say that she would ‘give the shirt off her back’ if it would assist a family member is an understatement. She was literally tireless in her service to family and loved ones.
Louise was devoted to her faith in the LDS church and served in many capacities; her most beloved involvement was always in the service of youth as she dearly loved them.

Louise was preceded in death by both parents, her husband Grant, and her dear sister Betty Watson as well as her Brother in law Rex Watson. She is survived by her sons (James, his wife Wanda, and Neil), her grandchildren (Georgia, Grant, Michelle, Travis, Katrina, Logan, and Colin) and Great grandchildren (Hope, Landen, and Hailey); as well as a large extended family of nephews, nieces, and cousins.

She will be greatly missed by all who knew her as she was a shinning star in the journey that is life.
