On Tuesday, October 3, Patty passed away peacefully at home in her sleep two short months after being diagnosed with cancer. She had just celebrated her 78th birthday, surrounded by loved ones both near and far who came to celebrate and shower her with love and laughter!
Patty was born on Aug. 30 1945 in East Grand Rapids, MI, to Marian and Willard (Bill) Duetting, joining her older brother, Mike. Their childhood was spent in Grand Rapids and Larchmont, NY as her father climbed the corporate ladder at Xerox Corporation. After graduating high school, she continued on to receive her BA in English from Miami University of Ohio.
During the summer months Patty signed on as a flight attendant with Pan Am Airlines, enjoying many international destinations and adventures!
After college she migrated to California and fell in love with the Bay Area and in 1979 she began her career with Xerox Learning Systems as an Account Manager. Having earned an MBA from Pepperdine University, she quickly became one of the firms’ “top sales performers”, and soon won all major sales incentives trips as well as the coveted “Catalyst Award” for extraordinary sales performance. She left Xerox in 1985 to start her own independent consulting firm, Advantage Performance.
During this time, Patty began coming to Sun Valley to visit friends and, of course, fell in love with the area and knew this was where she belonged.
It was here that she met the love of her life, “her favorite Boy Scout” Dick Hare. They married in Dick’s beloved Lanai, HI, and spent many happy years together until Dick’s passing just last February. Patty fought several serious health challenges throughout her adult life, but lovingly and steadfastly cared for Dick. “They gave each other their ALL” and are now eternally reunited.
Patty will forever be remembered by her nieces and nephew, Jennifer, Audra and Pat Duetting, goddaughters Gina Midili and Alison Dimmer, her stepchildren, Mindy, Michelle, Dan and their children, as well as her huge circle of loving friends and caregivers (many of whom also cared for Dick) and were also devoted to her comfort and care.
A Celebration of Life service is planned for Patty on Thursday, Nov. 9th at St. Thomas Episcopal Church at 2pm.
It was Patty’s wish that in lieu of flowers you might consider a donation in her memory to The Hospice and Palliative Care of Wood River Valley.
