Life Story for James Douglas "Doug" Lyke

James Douglas Lyke, 75, died October 15, 2018, at his home in Lake Havasu City, Arizona.
Doug, as he was known, was born in 1942 in Caldwell, Idaho, the son of Jim and Florence Lyke.

In his youth Doug became a skilled baseball player, earning a scholarship to the University of Oregon to play for the Ducks. He also attended University of Idaho and Northwestern College.
Throughout his life, Doug, like many native Idahoans, was an avid and dedicated hunter and fisherman. While attending the University of Idaho he made the Clearwater River his second home. Later in his life he hunted ducks and geese up and down the Snake River. After moving to the Wood River Valley, he logged many hiking miles pursuing elk in the beautiful Idaho mountains.

In 1982, Doug married Janice Shoemaker Adams and together they built a thriving business. Lykes Insulation and Garage Doors operated successfully until their retirement in 2015, after which they moved to Lake Havasu City, Arizona to relax and enjoy the warmth. They were frequent hosts to children, grandchildren and friends. Jan and Doug were inseparable partners, hunting and fishing together, traveling to Mexico, Hawaii and the Caribbean in pursuit of more fish and fun.

In a previous marriage Doug had two sons, James D. Lyke and Dennis A. Lyke. His sons both gave him two grandchildren, Ellie and Lauren of Tacoma, Washington and Adelaide and Jack of Boise, Idaho. Doug was an enthusiastic grandfather, enjoying every moment he spent with his grandchildren. Doug also helped Jan to raise her daughter Tonya and later Tonya’s two sons, Khi and Josh.

Doug was a kind and gentle soul and will be greatly missed by friends and family alike.

Doug is survived by his wife Janice Shoemaker Lyke, son James, sister Alexis Lyke McDonald and six grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Florence and his son Dennis.

There will be a celebration of life for Doug in the spring of 2019 to be announced at a later date. Please share a memory or photo at: www.woodriverchapel.com
