Life Story for Carolyn Kay Hopperstad

Carolyn Hopperstad was born on August 25, 1943, in Topeka, KS to Kenneth and Kathleen (Kay) Slack. Four years later, her little brother & lifelong friend, Robert (Bob) Slack was born, and not long after, the entire extended family moved to Twin Falls, ID.

Carolyn graduated from high school in Twin Falls, and became a popular local hairstylist.

In October, 1964, Carolyn's first daughter, Terri Lynn Slack, was born.

In 1967, Carolyn was introduced to John Hopperstad, and six years later they married in a spontaneous ceremony in Elko, NV.

On September 29, 1980, Carolyn & John made front page news when Carolyn's second daughter, Jenifer Kay Hopperstad, was born suddenly & prematurely, in their home in Twin Falls.

In 1984, John's work led the family to the South, where they spent the next three years traveling through Texas, Louisiana & Mississippi, before settling in Houston. Carolyn was deeply impressed by the hospitality, diversity & culture (especially food!) of the Deep South, and the family remained there until 1992, when they returned to Idaho to be closer to family and the mountains. In 2000, Carolyn began working for Sun Valley Co., and in 2002, she purchased a small home & made her final move to Ketchum, ID.

During her employment at Sun Valley, Carolyn touched the lives of countless people, treating everyone she met as if thy were family. Carolyn's humor, wit & consummate generosity and love will NEVER be forgotten.

Carolyn passed away peacefully in her dreams, in her home in Sun Valley in the late hours of January 25th. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Hopperstad; her father, Kenneth Slack; her brother, Robert Slack; and her sister-in law, Cynthia Slack.

She is survived by her mother and step-father, Kay and Nolan Bakewell; her daughters, Terri Beeks and Jenifer Hopperstad; her grandchildren, Matthew and Elizabeth Beeks; and her niece, Angela Marie Slack.

In lieu of a traditional Sun Valley Company, a celebration of Carolyn's life will be held Wednesday February 5th, 2014 at Whiskey Jacques', 251 N. Main Street, Ketchum, ID at 5:00 pm. More details to come.."
