Life Story for Thomas Henry Heaney

Thomas “Bud” Heaney was born in Santa Monica, Calif., in 1945 to Thomas and Eleanor Heaney. He attended Catholic boarding school early on, then Catholic day school and finally public school.

He was accepted at the LA Art Center, though other interests interfered. Growing up in Santa Monica in the 1940s and ’50’s was storybook idyllic, but Santa Monica was beginning to change, and it was time to move on. Bud followed his brother to Sun Valley in the mid-1960s. After a couple of years working in Ketchum, Bud opened his own plumbing business and thrived until his retirement. Bud suffered from emphysema, a heinous disease that took his life. Bud tried so hard so many times to quit smoking, but was never successful.

Bud’s artistic talents were diversified and enviable, from building custom cars to exquisitely built jewelry boxes to a successful cottage business developing silk-screened T-shirts in the early ’60s.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Adreinne. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Rita; his son, Darby (Mollie-Lilah-Henry); his brother, John, and sister, Mary; and a large extended family. We miss him.

A memorial was held May 21, 2017.
