Life Story for Katherine "Kate" Graham

On Monday, July 3, 2017, Katherine Keith REEVE Graham, wife, mother, daughter and sister, passed away at the age of 34 years. Kate will be forever remembered by her husband and best friend Patrick, and their precious children, Piper and Gus, by her parents Robin Reeve and Joan Murdock, and by her brother and sisters Matt and Molly Reeve. Kate will also be forever remembered by her numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and dear friends.

Kate grew up in Wakefield, Massachusetts and enjoyed an active childhood, joining the swim team, golf club, cribbage club, soccer team, and many other activities with friends that kept her busy. She had an early introduction to the outdoors at 10 months, when her father, Robin took all 3 children camping for the first time. From there, a deep and everlasting love for the wilderness and sunshine was fostered within Kate’s heart. Kate loved spending time at her family’s cabin in Wolfeboro, NH and at Camp Foss in Barnstead, NH during the summer. When she was older, her love for children brought her to be a nanny for her cousins on Long Beach Island, NJ, where she loved to walk on the beach in the evenings, listening to the waves crash in the dark.

Kate attended Tabor Academy in Marion, MA for high school and continued to St. Michaels College in Winooski, VT for her first year of college. She then decided to listen to her heart and explore the west by driving across country in her Subaru with her father to Arizona, where she attended and graduated from Prescott College.

While living in the southwest, Kate fell head over heels for the dry desert air, the profound beauty of the landscape and the gentle kindness of the folks that lived there. From then on, she was hooked. She traveled all over the west, working as a ski instructor, river guide, and educator having adventure after adventure.

She eventually came back up to Idaho, where she had her a college orientation backcountry ski trip and reconnected with an old camp friend, Patrick Graham. Once Kate found herself back in the beautiful mountains and rivers of Idaho, she finally found a place that she wanted to grow her roots and make a home.

Kate worked as a first grade teacher at Bellevue Elementary School. She was passionate about her students and loved each and everyone of them, constantly bringing projects home that would make each day special for them.

Kate’s greatest joy of her life was being a mother to her beautiful babies and having adventures in the outdoors. Whether it was rock climbing with friends at the City of Rocks, charging three rocks rapid on the Arkansas River, skiing telemark turns in deep powder above Bench Yurt, or backpacking through Yellowstone, Kate was happiest with the stars above her and a warm campfire beside her, surrounded by friends who also shared her love and passion for the simple life.

Our beloved Kate has touched so many hearts all over this beautiful world. We have planned two memorial services, one in Hailey, Idaho and the other in Kirby, Vermont.

A gathering will be held on Sunday, July 16, at 10 am by the arrow, at the Big Wood River Bow Bridge near Lions Park. Please bring a handful of your favorite flowers to add to a communal centerpiece. Lions Park, 255 Croy Creek Rd, Hailey, ID 83333
