Gina Macdonald

July 7, 1949 — April 21, 2025

Ketchum

On April 21st, 2025, we lost Augusta Georgina (Gina) Church Judge Macdonald to cancer. She peacefully and painlessly departed from this world, surrounded and supported by her loving family, including her 3 sons, her daughters-in-law, and grandchildren.

Gina was born on June 7th, 1949, and was one of two daughters with sister Jane. She met her lifelong partner and husband, Alexander Macdonald II (Pops) in high school, whom we lost just a few short years ago. Together they lived a beautiful life, built a legacy and a family. We take comfort in knowing they’ve been reunited.

Gina, Ma, Uma…she is known by many names reflective of the many roles in her life as wife, mother, grandmother, friend, business partner, board member, president. She was able to embrace these roles while instilling principles in us all. With the same signature biceps used to rein her cutting horse in the arena, Ma also reined her sons in adolescence through adulthood, showing us the course of right from wrong by which will still know not to stray. Not by fear of consequence, but rather her “all seeing eye” of the Raven. It was Pops who was at the helm, but it was Ma who perched at the bow and guided him through stormy seas. The same watchful eye that continues to guide us through the waters ahead.

Ma was also known for her nurturing hand and green thumb in the most inhospitable of environments, from Quesnel, British Columbia, Canada with no plumbing or electricity while tending to cattle, to Idaho where she raised horses in Bellevue and ultimately settled atop a mountain near Ketchum with her legendary garden. Over the years she took up snowboarding on Baldy, fished for trout in the Henry’s Fork, avidly read enough books to fill a library, hand crafted jewelry, and soaked up the sun in Maui. It was Maui that she and Pops made their final refuge, creating a sanctuary for our family. Together in life, forever in spirit.

We are planning a Celebration of Life at Mountain Humane in Hailey, Idaho, on June 14th, 2025. Where we can share stories and hugs, laugh and cry.
