Gabriel Boutros Cherian, 94, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2026. He was born on Oct. 5, 1931, to Boutros and Berthe Cherian in Cairo, Egypt.
He will be remembered for a long and successful career in mechanical engineering, his will to be a forever inventor, his patents and his mastery of several languages. In high school, he graduated top of his country. After college in Egypt he continued with more college in Germany. There he met the love of his life, Helma. They married and migrated to the United States.
They had three sons: Alex, Thomas and Maurice. The family journeyed from New Jersey to Pennsylvania, and then on to California. Helma and Gabe eventually retired and landed in beautiful Sun Valley, in their dream house built by their son Alex. He is survived by sons Alex (Chrissy) and Tom (Peggy) and predeceased by wife, Helma, and son, Maurice.
The funeral services will be held Thursday, March 19, at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 201 Sun Valley Road, Sun Valley, Idaho, 83353, at noon, burial at the Ketchum Cemetery at 1 p.m. and celebration of life at The Pioneer Saloon at 2 p.m.
