Francis X. Shetterly, “Kiko” of Smiley Creek, ID died peacefully in his home on January 17, 2020. Born in Mexico City on October 3rd, 1953, he is survived by siblings: Anya Littauer and her husband Andrew of Princeton, NJ; Jane Shetterly and Stephen Shetterly, both of Albuquerque, NM; Erin Rountree and husband Malcolm of Hailey, ID; Toni Shetterly and Casey Shetterly and her spouse Patrick Murphy all of whom reside in Plymouth, MA; Charlie and James Chhay and respective families from Lynn, MA; and Vuthy Chhay of Palm Coast, FL; and many nieces and nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Patricia and Howard Shetterly and siblings Kevin, Brian and Joseph.
The son of a diplomat, Kiko lived in many countries including Mexico, Brazil, and Spain and he attended school in Rome, Italy before returning to the United States. The family vacationed near Cape Cod in Plymouth, MA where family still resides and where his love of the sea and surf was cultivated. After many of years of travel, Kiko found his happy valley and made Smiley Creek his home. He was a builder that lovingly customized a number of homes in the area. His adventurous spirit led him to many countries and boundless excursions often including his kayak, skis or mountain bike. Most important were the many people he met along the way; the dancing, singing and sharing of meals and conversation. Never bereft of opinion, he was an avid reader and follower of world politics but ultimately believed the artists, poets, musicians and lovers of life were the spiritual leaders we should seek for guidance in this tumultuous world.
We bid a fond farewell as Kiko departs for adventures unbridled by human constraints. A celebration of our friend and brother will take place later in the Spring.
Please go to the Memory Wall and leave your email address in a Condolence message so we can inform you of the memorial in the Spring!
Thank you.
