Obituary for Candida Cagney "Candy" Forstmann

Candida Crowe Forstmann, known as Candy to all, died in her sleep due to complications associated with ALS on Thursday, December 16th 2010 in Ketchum Idaho. She was 71 years old, born October16, 1939 in Chicago, Illinois.
The daughter of Patricia and William P. Cagney, she moved to New York to attend Manhattanville College where she met her first husband Julius Anthony Forstmann. They had three children. She moved to Hailey, Idaho in 1971 with her three children. She built the Broadford Farm and lived there for 25 years. In June1985, she married the love of her life, Stoney Burke.
Candy was a passionate individual who excelled in all of her interests. She was a consummate horsewoman, a master gardener and an exquisite cook. Devoted to her Italian heritage, language and culture, she spent the last 13 years dividing her time between Italy and Idaho. Candy was also an avid skier racer, golfer and bridge player. She was a staunch supporter of animal rights and protecting the environment. She was noted for her impeccable taste and style and loved traveling.
She was also a loving wife, mother and grandmother. A true beauty her entire life, she lived and died courageously.
She is survived by her loving husband Stoney Burke, her three children, William Anthony Forstmann(Tony), Candida Forstmann Anthony(Cara), Christina Forstmann Giammalva and eight grand children: Candida Cagney Anthony(Carly 20), Alexa Harrison Anthony (17), Francesca Christina Giammalva (17), Gabriella Cara Giammalva (13), Jessica Reeves Forstmann (12), Isabella Cecilia Giammalva (10), Patrick Nicholas Forstmann (9), and Katerina Elizabeth Forstmann (4). She will be missed terribly by her entire family.
Memorial services were held at St Thomas’s Episcopal Church in Ketchum, Idaho Monday December 20th with a reception following at the Christiania. Memorial contributions are suggested to either Hospice and Palliative Care of the Wood River Valley, the Audubon Society, or St Thomas Episcopal Church in her honor.
