Obituary for Rosemarie "Rose" Fishman (Gottlieb)

She was a woman of the West. Rose was born in Great Falls, Montana and was raised by her Aunt Betty and Uncle Ernie in Pocatello, Idaho. As a highschooler, she came to Sun Valley to ski with her brother Alvin Lehman and fell in love with the sport, the beautiful mountains, and the aura of Sun Valley in the 1940’s.

At the age of 17, Rose ventured East, for three days on a train, to attend the University of Michigan and obtain her “MRS.” degree. She did, and married Sam Wolf in 1951. They lived and raised their family in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Rose was an involved and devoted mother to her five daughters. She always maintained a very active interest in the arts, her community, and took advantage of every opportunity to ski in Michigan.

However, she never lost sight of Idaho, her love for the mountains, her home town of Pocatello, and particularly Sun Valley. In the late 1960’s, the family purchased a Villager condominium in Sun Valley. Rose finally had her own piece of Idaho. Unfortunately, Sam Wolf passed away in 1974.

From tragedy came happiness when Mike Fishman and Rose Wolf met, courted and were married in Sun Valley, Idaho with all eight of their children in attendance. Rose and Mike had a marvelous 35-year marriage, traveling to many foreign countries and visiting every state in the Union. Rose was an adventurous, fearless woman who was game for anything and enjoyed life to the fullest. She was a fighter and battled all of her illnesses to the bitter end. She chose to come back to Sun Valley for her final days to be in her home with her husband, her mountains and the clear fresh Idaho air.

Rose is survived by her loving husband, Michael Fishman, her daughters Janice Wolf Boomstein, Elizabeth Wolf Blahd, Martha Wolf, Nancy Wolf Calomiris and Connie Wolf; her stepchildren, David Fishman, Deborah Fishman and Jonathon Fishman; all of their spouses and partners; and 13 grandchildren. Rose was extremely close to and is survived by her brother, Alvin and her cousins Joanne Purther and Alan Ginsburg.
