David Sias Obituary
Nov. 14, 1937 – Oct. 15, 2025
David K. Sias, a consummate gentleman and scholar, accomplished international banker and world traveler, beautiful fly-fisherman and a devoted husband, father and grandfather passed away surrounded by family on October 15.
A native of New Jersey, David was the only child of Mabel Lewi Sias and David Kenneth Sias. He graduated from Yale University in 1959 and earned his MBA at New York University while working full-time as a young banker. Between Yale and NYU David served in the US Army as a tank commander in Germany where he quickly learned the language and forged the path for his return to Frankfurt where he headed the acquisition of Deutsche Union Bank. He and his wife lived in Germany for seven years where both his children were born.
While his long career at Bankers Trust Company in New York City is noteworthy, taking him to every corner of the globe opening financial markets, and his second act in venture capital also saw him at the forefront of a new frontier, it was with his family his true brilliance shown through.
Around David, you sat up straighter, spoke more thoughtfully, acted with consideration, empathy, generosity, discipline, and kindness, all in an effort to walk through the world holding yourself to the same standard he set for himself. His legacy is vast and profound. His family and friends will miss not only his unwavering care and attention to every detail of their lives, but his witty puns, home cooked meals, and the hours he spent on the phone with each child and grandchild offering his incomparable wisdom and advice.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Patricia Milback Sias, his children Christopher and Robin Sias, his daughter-in-law Chris Johnson, and his grandchildren, Lane, Blake and Matthew Letourneau, and Cole, Finn, Reid, and Shea Sias.
His funeral will be private with a celebration of life in the planning.
