Beryl Albrethsen Peck

Beryl Albrethsen Peck was born on September 15, 1932, in Hailey, Idaho, to Alfred and Neva Albrethsen, of Carey, Idaho.

Beryl was Neva and Alfred’s second child; her older brother was Chester Ray Albrethsen.

Beryl grew up on a farm in Carey, Idaho, surrounded by her family and the simple joys of country life. She was active in the LDS Church and enjoyed being involved in school activities. In school, Beryl played basketball and was a good player until she injured her knee. She was also a cheerleader in high school.

Beryl had many happy memories of her childhood. She enjoyed spending time with friends, shooting squirrels on dates, and even appropriating neighbors’ chickens to cook for the football team. Those early years helped shape her hardworking spirit, her sense of adventure, and her love of life.

During her later years of high school, Beryl began working for Harvey and Ruby Green at the local telephone office. She did paperwork and worked on the switchboard.

She married Max E. Peck of Carey, Idaho, on May 7th, 1952.

When the telephone company closed, Beryl found other work doing office duties at the Adamson gas station and store. Beryl and Max had two children, Earl and Neva. She worked hard, balancing her job with raising her family and making a home in Carey.

In 1959, Max got a job at the Texaco gas station in Ketchum, Idaho, so the family moved to Ketchum. Beryl helped at the gas station by keeping the books. In 1962, the family moved to Kennewick, Washington where Max worked in construction. They returned to Ketchum in 1964 and purchased the American Gas station. In addition to the station, they operated a wrecker/towing service, an ice business, and an Avis rent-a-car franchise. It kept the family very busy. Once again, Beryl took care of the bookkeeping. The family enjoyed camping at Alturas Lake, fishing the Salmon River and racing snowmobiles.

Beryl also worked at the Sun Bowl bowling alley, where she served customers and made many friends. Her friendly nature and dependable work ethic made her a valued employee wherever she worked.

While working at the Sun Bowl, Beryl met Luther Douglas, a local businessman and artist. He asked her to work for him making sand paintings and jewelry. Luther appreciated Beryl’s strong work ethic and trusted her to do a good job. Beryl enjoyed working for him and continued until illness forced him to retire.

Beryl later worked at several banks in Ketchum until her retirement in 1997.

Beryl’s beloved husband, Max, passed away in November 1987.

In 1999, Beryl married Robert O. Eldredge, of Carey, Idaho and together they made their home in Ketchum, Idaho. Beryl loved fishing, camping, traveling, attending ball games, and enjoying everything life had to offer. She was active and adventurous and believed in living life to the fullest.

In September 2017, Beryl and Robert moved to Klamath Falls, Oregon, where they lived in a home across the street from Neva and husband Rick. Being close to family was important, and the move gave her more opportunities to spend time together. Beryl enjoyed many outings and the time she shared with her loved ones.

Beryl lived in Klamath Falls until her passing on October 29, 2026.

Beryl’s life was one of hard work, family devotion, adventure, and friendship. From her childhood on an Idaho farm to her many years of work and the different places she called home; she made the most of her opportunities and continued moving forward through life’s changes.

She will be remembered for her strong work ethic, her active spirit, her love for family and friends, and her enjoyment of life’s simple pleasures. Her story is a reminder of a life well lived with determination, resilience, kindness, generosity and a willingness to embrace each new chapter.

Beryl is survived by her children, Earl and Neva; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
