Ambrose “Pat” Patrick McLaughlin III (July 29th, 1937-June 2nd, 2025), a devoted husband, loving father, and respected physician, passed away leaving behind a legacy of kindness, intellect, and a passion for the outdoors.
Born and raised in Littleton, New Hampshire, Pat’s early life set the stage for a future marked by academic excellence and a compassionate spirit. He pursued his undergraduate studies at Dartmouth College, where his keen mind and dedication to learning flourished. His passion for helping others led him to Harvard Medical School, where he earned his medical degree, specializing in urology.
After completing his medical training, Pat moved to San Diego, California where he established himself as a skilled and caring urologist. It was also here where he met his “Carolina”. They married in 1973 and started their family in California.
In 1993, seeking a life closer to nature and the mountains he loved, Pat moved his family to Ketchum, Idaho. The Wood River Valley became his cherished home, where he embraced the rugged beauty of the landscape. He was an avid fisherman, mountain biker, skier, and hiker, finding great joy and solace in the surrounding mountains.
Pat's greatest pride and joy was his family. He was a loving older brother to Peter. He was a dedicated husband to Carol for over 51 years and a loving father to his five children: Ben, Giovanna, John, Alex, and Lucia. He was affectionately known as “Papa” to his 7 grandchildren.
He will be remembered for his gentle demeanor, his sharp intellect, his sense of humor, his unwavering dedication to his patients, and his profound love for his family. Ambrose Patrick McLaughlin will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
There will be a private memorial service to celebrate his life with just his family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Carol and Pat McLaughlin, MD Endowment Fund: This fund provides need-based assistance for St. Luke’s Wood River employees and their families to help with emergency medical expenses.
